Rory McIlroy, winner of the Honda Classic is the 16th player to be #1 in the world. He is also one of the youngest players to keep Tiger Woods (currently ranked 62nd) at bay.
He’s also got a super cute Irish accent and as of now, doesn’t have a string of chicks waiting to out him as a perv. I mean, there’s still time and everything, but right now? This guy is about 20 different kinds of awesome.
Tiger pulled out a 62 round today, which, you know, isn’t shabby. If you’re Tiger. It was a come from behind rush that put a little fear into McIlroy, who said “It was tough today, especially seeing Tiger make a charge, I knew par golf would probably be good enough. To shoot 1 under in these conditions, when you go into the round with the lead, is very nice. And I was just able to get the job done.”
A minor understatement. But seeing some humility in golf, especially from such a young, strong player is pretty refreshing. There were loads of birdies and crazy putts and other things that I will openly admit, I have zero idea about but what it boils down to is this: even with an amazing Sunday of play, Tiger was 5 shots down and McIlroy won.
This isn’t McIlroy’s first trip to the rodeo (oh great, I just pictured him riding a bull) and with 3 majors under his belt since turning pro in 2007, he has proven one to watch.
